Biography

Isaiah Starkey was born on 20 Aug 1804 in Virgnia, USA, the son of George Starkey and Barbara Bowers

Isaiah married Lydia Smith in Pickaway, Ohio, USA on 14 March 1829 [1]

The 1850 census taken in Sycamore, DeKalb, Illinois, USA, showed Isaiah with his family. He was age 45, a farmer born in Virginia, and married to Lydia, age 44, born in Ohio. They had children Simeon S age 16, Simon P age 15, Neonidas age 11 (these three chidren were born in Ohio), Lydia age 10, Aaron age 6, Mary age 4 and Susan age 1 (the younger children were born in Illinois) [2]

By 1860 Isaiah had moved to Hamilton, Decatur, Iowa. He was shown on the census as age 56 and a farmer, with him were his children Simeon, age 26, Aaron age 17 and Mary age 13. [3]

In 1880, Isaiah was living with his daughter Mary, her husband Osborn Grindstaff and their 5 children in Hamilton, Decatur, Iowa [4]

Isaiah died on 17 June 1892, in Pleasanton, Decatur County, Iowa, and was buried in the Hamilton Cemetery. His date of birth was given as 20 August 1804, and his daughter's name was recorded as Amanda C Purdun [5]
