Biography
James was the youngest of 12 children born to Charles Starns and Christina Myers. Six of his siblings did not live to adulthood. He was the only one of the family born in Kansas. They had moved across the river from Missouri when Kansas became a territory. James' father was a wealthy farmer who owned a grist mill and a freight business (freighting along the Santa Fe trail).
In the 1860 census James (age 3) was in Delaware Township, Leavenworth, Kansas Territory, United States.[1]
In 1861 & 1862 Charles was a state legislator. Like his brothers, James was a farmer.
In the 1870 census James (age 13) was in Delaware Township, Leavenworth, Kansas, United States.[2]
In the 1880 census James (age 23) was the single head of household in Fairmount, Leavenworth, Kansas, United States. He was a Farmer.[3]
James married Emma Savannah Bell Starns Oct 5 1881 in Leavenworth, Kansas. [4] and they had one child, Olive S. Starns Klamm (1892 - 1957)
In the 1900 census James (age 43) was the married head of household in Fairmount Township, Leavenworth, Kansas, United States.[5]
In the 1910 census J (age 53) was the married head of household in Fairmont, Leavenworth, Kansas, United States.[6]
In the 1920 census James (age 62) was the married head of household in Fairmount, Leavenworth, Kansas, United States.[7]
In the 1930 census James (age 73) was the married head of household in Fairmount, Leavenworth, Kansas, United States.[8]
James died Dec 27 1930.
He was buried in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Leavenworth County, Kansas. Plot: Section 24/Lot 30/Grave 2 [9]
