Biography

Robert's birth year and death date come from his death record.

Revolutionary War: When he was about 17, Robert enlisted with Armand's Partisan Legion, one of several noted to have recruited in Albemarle County, Virginia where Robert's family lived.

Chatham County, Georgia: He was on the "Earliest surviving tax digest of Chatham Co." in 1790 and is consistently found in tax and other records there, generally identified as a Shopkeeper. He was issued and re-issued a liquor license in the late 1790s and early 1800s and is found frequently in Chatham County court records due to debts.

Marriage and family: The marriage date for Robert and Ann is based on the estimated birth years of their known children. Only the first three of their four children are specifically linked to Robert or Ann in the records: Caroline Statham, who died in infancy in Sep 1807, was identified as the daughter of Robert; and William T. Statham and Susannah (Statham) Kirk received a deed gift from the widowed Ann in 1821. The presumed fourth child was Ann Statham, age 13 when she died in late 1820.

Robert's widow and orphan: Ann Statham, widow, and William Statham, orphan, dew land in the 1821 land lottery.

More information about Robert and Ann Statham, their children, etc. can be found in Robert Statham Book of Stathams, which has been attached to this profile.
