Notes

Love's year of birth comes from an affidavit he gave in 1843 in which he stated he was 74 years old. He also said that he grew up in Amherst County but he was likely born in Albemarle County as his father Charles was named in deed records there in 1769 as both grantee and adjoining landowner (Deed Book 5, pp. 144-146).

Charles Statham was on the Albemarle grand jury responsible for reviewing the confiscation of Loyalist properties in 1779 ("Albemarle County in Virginia" by Edgar Woods) and with wife Mary, sold property there in 1780, but it's unknown whether he resided in Albemarle County throughout this entire time. He was in Amherst County on the earliest extant tax list of 1782.

Love was named as a tithable on his father's Amerst County tax lists in 1787 and 1788 but was named in Georgia records from about 1791 to 1801.

Georgia

- Wilkes County tax lists, with his brother William from 1791 to 1793, and in 1799 (William was by then in Lincoln County, which was created from Wilkes in 1796).

- Elbert County, witnessed the will of William Bibb on 9 Sep 1795

- Wilkes County, defendant in State of Georgia v. Love Statum, alleged assault on Jane Pettit "with a leaded horse whip". Ordered to pay $300 in damages 29 Apr 1800 but judgment still unsatisfied on 5 Mar 1801, when Jane sued the sheriff for allowing Love to "go & escape" from custody.

Virginia

Campbell County tax lists in 1804 and 1805; his father and brother Richmond were also taxpayers in this county

Jefferson County, Tennessee

Love married Margaret Staples there in 1806. On 5 Jun 1824 he made entry for 80 acres at 12 and 1/2 cents per acre which was granted on 31 Dec 1825. He was on the 1830 and 1840 censuses and he gave an affidavit on 4 Nov 1843 in Jefferson County, Tennessee in support of Mrs. Mary Landrum's application for a RW widows pension on her husband, James. This was his last known appearance in records and his widow headed a household in Jefferson County in 1850.
