Biography
She went by her middle name Miranda.
Some years ago I made contact with a Johnson descendant who said that her ancestor Richard Johnson was the sheriff of Henderson Co., Tennessee. From what she had heard he often took in orphans for short periods until new homes could be found for them. However, in Larcenia's case, it appears that his daughter Cada, who was unmarried at the time, became attached to Larcenia and started treating her like her own child. This is plausible in light of the fact that Larcenia moved to Arkansas with Cada and her husband John Barnard by the time of the 1860 census. And that is how she was known to our family --Larcenia Barnard, not Larcenia Staton.
