Stephen was born about 1768. His parents were Joseph Steed and Ann Flood. He was christened on 13 April 1768 at St Lawrence Kent, England[1]
Research Notes
A number of online family trees state that Stephen married Sarah Crunden and that she is the mother of his son, John Sandwell Stead. No reliable sources can be found for a marriage between Stephen Stead and a Sarah Crunden. Given that Sarah Crunden died as a child, it is not possible for her to have been a wife and mother. In view of the fact that Sarah Crunden could not have married Stephen Stead and that she could not be the mother of John Stead, I have detached her from this profile. Williams-47589 15:33, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
This profile gave a death date for Stephen Stead of 1852. The death registered in Thanet for Stephen Stead is that of a 1 year old. It cannot be this Stephen Stead. I have, therefore removed it.[2] It is likely that Stephen died before 1837, as there does not seem to be a relevant death in the GRO index, Williams-47589 16:09, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
