Alfred was born in 1871. He was the son of Adolphus Stead and Eliza Matthews. He passed away in 1942.

OBITUARY:
Mr. Alfred Charles Stead (71), a resident of Shirley Street. Byron Bay, for the past 25 years, died in the Lismore Base Hospital on Saturday afternoon after a Iong illness. Mr. Stead was well known throughout the Richmond River district, but came to the North Coast of N.S.W. as a boy. He had not enjoyed good health for some time. Mr. Stead, married Miss Eva Gertrude Batterham, who survives him. In addition to the widow, the deceased is survived by 12 children. The sons are Roy (Wanganui, N.Z.), Norman and Eric (R.A.A.F.) and Edgar (Lidcombe), and the daughters are Mesdames E. McPherson (Moorooka, Qld.), G. Hackett (Byron Bay), M. McPherson (Coorparoo, QLD.). A. McCormick (Coramba), G. Stewart (Tennyson, Qld), P. Williams (Lidcombe), D. H. Lee (Bexhill Road, Lismore), and Miss Grace Stead (Newcastle). The funeral will leave the Lismore Methodist Church, today after a service commencing in the church at 2 p.m. for the Lismore cemetery.
