1776 Project
Private William Stearns served with 1st Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

William Stearns is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A109442.

From Avis Stearns VanWagenen's Stearns Genealogy and Memoirs: 744— CAPT WILLIAM STEARNS (276). b. Aug 5, 1754, son of Ebenezer and Mary (Spring) Stearns, of Worcester, Mass.; was Captain in the Revolutionary Army and his discharge, with some of the Continental money which he received for his services, has been treasured by his family. He m., Sept. 16 1775, Joanna Duncan, b. Feb. 8, 1757, who died., Aug. 13, 1834, in Jamestown, N.Y. He died Feb 14, 1834, in Jamestown, Chautaqua Co. N.Y. ……. He had fifteen children. See more. [1]

William moved his family to Stratton, Vermont, about 1800. Prior to their move to Stratton, they resided in Orange, Massachusetts. William bought land and lived in Stratton through 1815, then resettled in Winhall, VT, and finally moved on to Jamestown, NewYork, with other Stratton families.[2]
