Lincoln was born in 1871 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Melvin and May Sophia Stearns. Lincoln married Rodella M. Pope on 7 December 1893. They had at least six children. Lincoln died in 1917 in St. Louis, Missouri. 
In 1910, Lincoln and Rodella lived at 410 W. 5th, Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York. The household included Lincoln, 38, born in NY, as were his parents, an Assistant Secretary in a factory, who owned their house with a mortgage, and who had been married for 16 years; his wife, Rodella M., 36, born in Missouri, as was her mother, and whose father was born in New York. Rodella had had six children, four of whom were living; and their four children: Melvin C., 13, born in Missouri, in school; H. Pope, 10, born in Missouri, in school; John P., 2, born in New York; and Jane M., four months, born in New York. The parents and the two older children could read and write.
