Biography

Charles was born in 1880. He was the son of Franklin Stearns and Emily Palmer.^[1][2] Charles married his first cousin, Irene Louise Halsey, daughter of J. Morton Halsey and Irene Stearns, in 1903 at Orange County, Virginia.^[3] By 1910, Charles was listed as divorced.^[4] He married Florence Murphy about 1930.^[5]

"Charles P. Stearns, 60, Dies in Puerto Rico
Friends here today learned of the sudden death yesterday in Puerto Rico of Charles Palmer Stearns, 60, formerly connected with Edgar Morris Sales Company. Son of the late Franklin Stearns and Emily Palmer Stearns of Richmond, Va., Mr. Stearns was in Puerto Rico on a Government mission. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Florence Murphy Stearns, and a son, Franklin Stearns, 4th, both of whom are in Miami, Fla. The body will be brought home for burial."^[6]

Charles Palmer Stearns, resident of Chevy Chase, Md., fir the past nine years, who died last month in San Juan, P. R., will be buried today at Richmond, Va. Surviving Mr. Stearns are his widow, Mrs. Florence Murphy Stearns; a son, Franklin Stearns, 4th; a brother, Palmer M. Stearns of Arlington, Va., an six sisters, Mrs. Charles Rixey and Miss Emily Stearns of Farley, Va.; Mrs. Pressley M. Rixey of Alexandria, Va.; Mrs. Kemper McClanahan and Miss Alice Stearns of Washington, and Mrs. George A, Gray of Chevy Chase, Md. Mr. Sterns a native of Farley, the family home near Culpeper. was graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria and Georgetown University Law School."^[7]
