Hannah was born about 1722 likely in Stoughton, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay. This birth year for Hannah is calculated from her reported age of 34 on date of her death (August 14, 1756). Her place of birth is inferred from her marriage record and her identification as being "Hannah of Stoughton."

Hannah Stearns and Nathaniel May filed their intention to marry in Stoughton, Massachusetts Bay on December 15, 1751, quoting: "The Intention of Marriage between Nath. May & Hannah Stearns both of Stoughton Intend Decbr ye 15th 1751."

Less than 5 years after her marriage, Hannah died at age 34 in Stoughton on August 14, 1756. Quoting: Stoughton's death record, "Hannah May ye Wife of Natll May Died August ye 14th 1756 in ye 34th year of Her Age."
