Biography

Joseph Stebbins was the son of John Stebbins, III, and his first wife, Mary. Joseph was born, raised, made his living, and died in Deerfield, Massachusetts.

Marriage and Family

He married Mary Stratton around 1743 in Northfield. They had seven children together. Children, all born at Deerfield:[1]

1. Mary Stebbins Smead Butler, born July 24, 1744; married Ebenezer Smead.
2. Sarah Stebbins Lyman, born October 15, 1747; married Elihu Lyman.
3. Joseph Stebbins, born October 15, 1749; married Lucy Frary.
4. Abigail Stebbins Stratton, born July 21, 1755; married Elijah Stratton.
5. Elizabeth Stebbins, born February 19, 1759; died August 8, 1761 at the age of two.
6. Elizabeth Stebbins Stratton, born July 30, 1762; married Eliphalet Stratton.
7. Asa Stebbins, born March 28, 1767; married Emilia Harvey.

The fifth child, Elizabeth was killed in an accident at Joseph's bark mill when she was about two years old. The other six survived to adulthood.
