Among the pictures is one of Daniel Skinner and his wife Phoebe Jane (Cornwell) Skinner b 1827, Daughter of Hannah (Stedman) Morehouse + Cornwell, who were parents of Clarence Skinner, their only child. A picture of what I think is Clarence Skinner.
There is a picture of Hannah Stedman's sister, Lydia b 1821 who married her sister's (in one place it says, step nephew James Cornwell. Then beside the picture of Lydia it has Lydia Myriah married James Cornwell (Oldest step son of Hannah her sister) Which is one in the same person. Her only son Abner (Cornwell is my cousin. b in what looks to be Wauconda, IL (Lydia)
(From Linda/Data Doctor)
I believe the photo mention has James' wife incorrectly named as Lydia. The photo is probably Elizabeth Steadman. Elizabeth was living with her sister Hannah on the 1830 and 1850 censuses. Lydia Mariah was Hannah's young daughter who died young.
NOTES by Charlene
OK, this confirms that Hannah STEDMAN was NOT the mother of James CORNWELL, but his step-aunt. James and his brother William were born before 1825--the date of marriage between Peter CORNWELL and Hannah STEDMAN-MOREHOUSE. That is why James named his first and only son Abner. He and William were the sons of Abner CORNWELL who died in Berne in 1823. Abner and Peter were most likely brothers. The only other explanation is that James and William were from a previous marriage of Peter, but then why not name the first son Peter?
Hannah CORNWELL went to live with Phoebe Jane in Topeka, Kansas where she died in 1879.
Hannah is the widow of Peter----and step-aunt of James and William.
All relocated to Lake Co., Illinois, except Hannah. There is no indication that she went with them. It may be at this point that she either stayed at the family homestead--only 2 doors from Phoebe Jane--or moved in with her.
