Philemon Stedman was born about 1756[1] to Ebenezer and Rebecca Stedman, and baptized on 9 January 1757 in Branford, Connecticut.[2]
He served as a private in the Connecticut Continental Line, Col. Chandler's Regiment, Capt.Samuel Mattocks' Company, from May 1777 to June 1783, and was discharged at West Point.[3]
