George Steedman was born August 26, 1793, a son of William Steeman and Rebecca (Cooke) Steedman. George's father was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. Application for membership in the Society of the DAR has been made by descendants of George Steedman, who married Margaret "Sarah" Blair.
George served in the military, during the War of 1812. In 1814 he was a member of the 123rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, commanded by Captain James Moody.
DAR records give George's wife's name as Margaret. Some records give her name as Sarah, and indicate that she may have been the daughter of James Blair.
