Margaret (Steel) Hardy was born in Ilkley, Yorkshire, England.

Margaret (Steel) Hardy migrated from England to United States.

Margaret was born in Ilkley, Yorkshire, England, on March 19, 1870. She was the daughter of Abraham Steel and Margaret Scaife. She was enumerated in the 1871 and 1881 census residing with her parents in Ilkley.

Margaret married David Barraclough on October 31, 1889, in Halifax at St John the Baptist. The couple would have one child, John William in 1890. Margaret, David, and ten month old son John appear in the 1891 census residing with Margaret's parents at 58 Thomas Street South, Halifax. Margaret and David were enumerated in the 1901 census residing at 4 Carlisle Street, Halifax. (Son not at residence).

Margaret's husband passed away in 1912. Although no records were found, Margaret emigrated to the United States in 1913. (This was the year stated on later U.S. census reports). She married William Hardy on October 2, 1917, in Summit, Jackson Michigan. They appear in Jackson in the 1920 and 1930 census. William was a farmer.

Margaret divorced William in 1936. The decree was dated March 19th. Margaret passed away on March 10, 1937. Her name, as it appeared on her death certificate, was Margaret Ann Barraclough (Hardy). Her address at time of death was 207 Golf Avenue, Vandercook Lake, Summit, Jackson, Michigan. She was buried at East Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, Jackson County, Michigan. She was sixty six.
