Biography
In 1870, 12 year old Samuel was living with parents James and Racheal Steele at Kerrs Creek in Rockbridge County where James was employed as a labourer.[1]
On March 28, 1878 Saml B Steele (22) married Ruth Robinson (24) in Rockbridge County, Virgina. Saml was born about 1856 in Rockbridge to J and R Steele. Ruth, a widow, was born about 1854 in Amherst to Eliza Winston.[2] Ruth Chandler was previously married to Morris Robinson in 1871.[3]
In 1880, Samuel and Ruth are living at Walkers Creek in Rockbridge with children Howard (7), John (5) and Mary (2). Samuel is employed as a labourer.[4]
