Notes: I am seeing this Joseph born in 1795 listed as a judge??. I think this Joseph was a farmer and that he had a son Joseph G Steele who became a judge based on records from W&L university in Lexington, VA. Would someone please comment on this if you have knowledge

Biography

Joseph was born about 1795. He passed away about 1872

search in progress trying to get correct info on his father David by searching descendent records. This needs work Anyone please add. Joseph was a farmer? in Rockbridge County, Virginia

Joseph Steele is a half brother to my Isabella Steele Leech. He is of David Sr' s 2nd marriage in 1789 to Agnes Trimble. I do not know to whom he married first. David Sr. and Agnes had 4 children, there were 7 children with his first wife.

Chancery records at Library of Va, Keyton vs Trimble indicate which heirs are of the first and second marriage. I have found nothing which gives me the name of his first wife or date of marriage. There is a book by George West Diehl, OLD OXFORD AND HER FAMILIES which talks about the family but I do not think the info is accurate. I could use help here.
