Biography

Henry Charles Steele was born 1842, son of Charles and Eliza Steele[1]

In the 1851 census, Charles Steele (34, a baker and flour dealer), his wife Eliza (34) and children Henry (8), Emma Eliza (6), Sasha Martha (3) and Mary Rachel Jane (0) are living at Slade Road Summer Street, Stroud. Also present are Eliza's father John Steele (66, a baker born Stroud), his wife Mary (64, born Rodboro) and Eliza's brother Joseph (16, born Stroud, a turner and Chair maker)[2]

In the 1861 census, Charles Steele (44, a baker), his wife Eliza (45), children Henry (18, an unmarried baker), Emma (16, millner), Sarah (14) and Jane (10) are resident at Summer Street, Stroud[3]

In the 1871 census, Charles Steel (54, miller and baker), wife Eliza (54), children Henry Chas (28, miller), Emma Eliza (26), Sarah Martha (23), Mary Jane R (20) and Julia Eth (18) are resident at Stroud[4]

In the 1881 census, Charles Steele (64, miller and baker), wife Eliza (64), children Harry (38, miller and baker), Sarah (33), Jane 30) and Julia (28) are all resident at Summer Street, Stroud[5]

In the 1891 census, Charles Steele (74, retired baker), wife Eliza )75), unmarried children Henry (40, Baker and Corn Miller), Sarah Martha Steele (40) and Julia Elizabeth (38) are all resident at Summer Street, Stroud[6]

in the 1901 census, widowed Charle Steele (84), unmarried children Henry C Steele (58, miller and baker), Sarah M (53) and Julia E (48) are resident at Summer Street, Stroud[7]
