Biography

George Steen aka Steene was born in 1793 in Malpas, Cheshire, England to Thomas Steen and Mary.

George Steen, son of Thomas & Mary, was christened on 21 Dec 1873 at St Oswald in Malpas.[1][2]

George Steen (Farmer, residing at Chester) and Elizabeth Holland (Spinster, residing at Chester) were married on 8 Dec 1817 at St Mary's on the Hill in Chester, Cheshire.[3][4]

George and Elizabeth had at least two sons:

  1. John Holland (c1816-) [born before they married, even though he used the surname Holland he listed George Steen as his father when he married]
  2. Thomas Steen (1818-)

George's wife passed away before 1828.

George Steene (age 25 [35], Widower, Labourer, residing at Malpas) and Jane Taylor (age 22, Spinster, residing at Malpas) were granted a marriage license on 19 Feb 1828.[5] They were married on 20 Feb 1828 at St Oswald in Malpas, Cheshire, England - the witnesses were Peter Barlow & Edwrd Griffiths.[6][7]

George and Jane had at least seven children:

  4. George Steen (1838-1888)

In 1841 George Steen (age 50) lived Near The Farm Or Maylands in Fareham, Hampshire with his wife Jeane (34) and six children: Thos (20), Elizth (10 [13]), Margarett (10), Wm (5), George (3), and Charlotte (1).[8]

In 1851 George "Stain" [Steen] (57, Labourer) and his son George Jr (14, Labourer) were "inmates" [they were in an inn? probably should read lodgers] at Ross Road in Hereford St John Baptist, Herefordshire in the household of Joseph Morgan (47, Inn Keeper) - also in the household were Joseph's wife and three children, as well as a servant.[9] Most of George's family lived at Deacon Street in St Mary De Lode, Gloucestershire: wife "James" [Jane] (45, Labouring Woman) and two other sons: Charles (8) and Ralph (5).

George Steen of Seacombe, aged 59 years, was buried on 6 Jan 1852 in Wallasey, Cheshire.[10][11] His death was registered in Wirral, Cheshire in the first quarter of the year.[12]
