Also in the household are Josiah, age 21, William A, age 19, Martha, age 14, Elizabeth, age 12, Rachel, age 10, Clara, age 8 and Cynthia, age 6. Everyone was born in Virginia. [1]

Emma R. Lavinder, born March 15, 1865, died October 12, 1943, in Ferrum, Franklin county, Virginia [14] married Peter Ramsey, son of Joseph and Harriett Ramsey, on November 17, 1880, in Franklin county. [15]
John Peter Lavinder, born October 25, 1866 [16] married Minnie Frances Young, a daughter of George W. and Sicily Young, on January 10, 1891 [17]

George and "Sallie" are found on the United States Census of 1860, living in the South West District of Franklin county, with children, Silas M., age 9, Lewis M. age 6, Chriptal P., age 5, and Virginia Lavinder, age 1. Also living in the home is Drinkard Stagall, age 53, Rachel Stagall, age 20 and Cynthia J. Stagall, age 15. [19] Drinkard Stagall aka Stegall is Sarah Ann's father. Rachel and Cynthia are her sisters. [20]
George Lavinder, Sr. apparently passed away before 1870, as "Sally Lavender" is found on the 1870 census, as head of household, residing in Rocky Mount, Franklin county, Virginia, with eight of her children still living at home, ages 2 to 19. [21]
