Hi Nikki. I proposed a merge a while back for James Cuddy Smith (1760-abt.1825) and James Cuddy Smith (abt.1760-abt.1846). The FamilySearch link goes to Smith-175995. A couple of major difference is when he died and whether his wife was a Parham. Through research, I know James Cuddy/Cudly Smith died before 1832 (I think before 1826). Our family history says his wife was Martha Parham but I haven't found any evidence of that yet. The other major difference is listing his son as Jonathan Smith. James' son John left Montgomery County and went to Tennessee about 1826. Jonathan stayed in Montgomery County. They are different YDNA lines so he cannot be Jonathan's father. I haven't figured out yet exactly where Jonathan came from. If I don't hear back, I'll merge the two and clean everything up. Thanks!

Those two could be the same. I looked back at changes and created a profile that was merged that ended up separating a father from a son instead of merging. So more than likely these are the same person. I l would love if you tried to clean these profiles up. Thank you,

-Nikki

Hello Nikki. My name is Rodney Bowers. I was just looking at your recent postings on Wikitree and took note of your James Ira Bowers and ufn Lee. I'm related to Bowerses in the North and South Carolina region, and I'm also related to Lees from North Carolina. James also is a common name in my Bowers line. However, I ran a check of my auDNA matches with FTDNA and Ancestry and found no match with Nikki L. Davis. I do show a match to a Shelly Stegall who married an ufn Davis. If you'd like to correspond, we could do so on Wikitree or you may contact me at [email address removed]

Regards, Rodney

I created a profile for Wade Weathers-1547

You just changed his name to Thomas Wade Weathers. Can you please share your source for that info ? Perhaps you confused his SON Thomas' numident for Wade ? I already had that source on the profile correctly identified as belonging to his son Thomas. Please let me know if you don't have a source so I can change it back to my original info. Thanks

Hello Nikki,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It is very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Thank you Wendy, that is very kind of you to offer help. I am new to this but my paternal grandmother researched and wrote a book with my mother on my Stegall side of the family. I’m going to start here with the ones I know and then break out the book to fill in more. The other reason for starting this is because my grandmother had 14 brothers and sisters and my grandfather had 11 brothers and sisters. I don’t know all my cousins. I felt real bad that I went through high school with some of them and didn’t realize they were cousins. Anyway thank you for offing help I really appreciate it.

Hi Nikki

I am pleased to welcome you as a member of the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have about WikiTree. Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point.

Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

Have fun collaborating on your ancestors
