Biography

Lyle was born January 06, 1918 in Ogdensburg, St Lawrence, New York, USA to John K. Steinberge and Anna Bradley.[1][2][3][4]

As of October 29, 1942, Lyle enlisted in the military.[5]

On May 05, 1945, Lyle married Virgil Kathleen Thomas in Potsdam, New York.[1]

Lyle passed away on July 31, 1994.[6] An obituary for Lyle was published in the Watertown Daily Times:

"A memorial service for Lyle William Steinberg, 76, Potsdam, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.

Mr. Steinberg died Sunday in Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen T.; two sons, John W., Sand Lake, and Ward C., Rhinelander, Wisc.; three daughters, Deborah A. Steinberg, Eggertsville, Mrs. Traian (Judith M.) Cainaru, Buffalo, and Kathleen L. Steinberg, Champaign, Ill.; seven grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

A son, Thomas R., died in 1949. A daughter, Melody L. Christoff, died in 1983.

Born in Ogdensburg on Jan. 6, 1918, a son of John K. and Anna Bradley Steinberg, he attended Potsdam schools. He married Kathleen Thomas on May 5, 1945, at the Methodist parsonage, with the Rev. Paul A. Roy officiating.

Mr. Steinberg served with the Army Air Corps as an engineer on a B-24 bomber during World War II, receiving an Air Medal and citation for exceptionally meritorious achievement while participating in bomber combat missions over enemy-occupied continental Europe. He also received a Distinguished Flying Cross with three-oak leaf clusters.

He was employed with D.L. Thomas Heating and Plumbing Co. for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Steinberg operated Steinberg's Wee Care.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans Elmer J. Murphy Chapter 164, Frank Barkley American Legion Post 74, Roy D. Graves Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1194, and served as commander of St. Lawrence County Council of the Veterans of Foreign Wars."[7]

He is buried in Fairview Cemetery along with his wife, Virgil Kathleen Thomas.[8]
