Biography

Václav Stepanek migrated from Bohemia, Austria to the United States.

Václav was born in 1861. He was the son of Václav Stepanek and Anna Patek.

Vaclav and baby son Karel ("Carl") emigrated in October, 1885 to New York. He settled in the Czech neighborhood of the upper East side, not far from his sisters, and worked as a Cigar Maker along with his wife.^[1]

In the 1890 census William Stepanek (age 29) was in New York City, New York, United States.^[2]

Vaclav became a naturalized Citizen of the United States in 1891 in New York, United States.^[3] He was working as a cigar maker and his address was 317 East 73rd Street.

In the 1900 census Vascar (age 39) was the married head of household in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States. His occupation was a Cigar Maker and he is marked as unable to speak English.^[4]

Vaclav died in 1906 at the age of 45.

Notes

His name was occasionally anglicized to "Willy," but for the most part he used Vaclav.
