Obituary

Mr. David "Dave" Anthony Stephan, age 66, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on April 16, 1949 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the loving son of Glenroy Edward and Alice Geyman Stephan. He was raised in the Canaan community and attended school there. Dave was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on November 3, 1969 in Louisville, Kentucky. He rose to the rate of Lance Corporal during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on October 3, 1975 from Camp Pendleton, California receiving the National Defense Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Service Medal with on Bronze Battle Star, the Combat Action Ribbon and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was first united in marriage to Sherry Kilgore and this union was blessed with a daughter, Tammy Tamara D. He was later united in marriage to Janie Kinman and this union was blessed with a son James Rockford Charles "Rocky" and Tammy Tamara Jane. Dave had worked for a window company in Cincinnati for several years and at Heitz Sign Company in Madison for several years until he became disabled from an accident on June 5, 1993. After Dave was moved to rehab in Columbus he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Dave was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the Madison VFW Post 1969. Dave was currently married to Maria "Beebie" Elena Torres. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, taking pictures, mushroom hunting, motorcycles and being with his family. Dave died on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 1:16 a.m. at his home in Madison, Indiana. Dave will be missed by his loving wife, Maria Elena Torres Stephan of Madison, Indiana; his loving mother, Alice Geyman Stephan Morris Juengel of Canaan, Indiana; his son, James Rockford Charles "Rocky" Stephan of Madison, Indiana; his daughter, Tammy Tamara D. Stephan of Georgia; his grandchildren, Blake Stephan, Levi Stephan, Natasha Stokes, Matthew Stokes, and Mercedes Stokes; his loving sisters, Mary Jacobs and her husband, Carroll of Madison, Indiana, Aggie Hunter and her husband, Kenny of Bedford, Kentucky, Theresa Herring and her husband, David of Canaan, Indiana, Bernie Napier and her husband, Dennis of Dupont, Indiana, Gert Hendrick and her husband, Paul of Nancy, Kentucky, Ginny Yount and her husband, Mark of Madison, Indiana, Patty Whitham and her husband, Robert of Canaan, Indiana, Bert Bromley and her husband, Curt Haller of Troy, Illinois; his loving brothers, Loy Stephan and his wife, Virginia of Canaan, Indiana, Dan Stephan and his wife, Onita of Canaan, Indiana, Jim Stephan and his wife, Betty of Canaan, Indiana, John Stephan and his wife, Myrna of Madison, Indiana, George Stephan and his wife, Doris of Madison, Indiana, Billy Morris and his wife, Kristy of North Vernon, Indiana; his sisters in law and brothers in law, Judelita, Edelita, Rosalina, Jeffrey and Nonalito all of the Philippines; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenroy Edward "Glen" Stephan, died February 9, 1992, his brother, Donald Troy "Donnie" Morris, died July 4, 2001, his sister, Nancy Joan Stephan Jackson, died June 28, 2005, his nephew, Danny Joe Stephan, died July 25, 1975, his daughter, Tammy Tamara Jane Stokes, his step-fathers, Virgil Morris, died Nov. 12, 1991 and Bobby Morris died, August 14, 2001, and Don Juengel; his grandparents, Glen and Juanita McLaughlin Stephan; Allie and Agnes Geyman, his father in law and mother in law, Elisio and Melitona Torres. Funeral Mass will be conducted Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., by the Rev. Christopher A. Craig at the St. Patrick Catholic Chapel, 305 West State Street in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the St. Patrick Catholic Chapel, 305 West State Street in Madison, Indiana. The Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Full military honors will be conducted on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana, following the Funeral Mass, conducted by the United States Marine Corps Ceremonial Unit and Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion.
