Doswell Stephens was born about 1822 in Pine Knot, McCreary, Kentucky, USA as the seventh child of Joshua Stephens and Temperance Storm Dupree.

He had fifteen siblings, namely: Elijah, Whitmell, Elisha, Timothy James, Jane, Henry, Joseph L., David, Calvin, Frederick "Ted", Aaron B., Moses, Sally, Luann, and Fred.

He died in May 14, 1863 in Smith County, Mississippi, USA (Age at Death: 40).

When he was 23, he married Martha Ellen Turnbough, daughter of Robert Turnbow and Sarah Canterbury, about 1845 in Smith County, Mississippi, USA. ^[1]
