The visitations of Wiltshire records: "Richard Stephens of Burderopp, co. Wilts, Gent., mar. Margerett, da. of ... and by her had issue, Thomas."[1] Her name is given as Margaret, daughter of John Kibblewhite in a 1912 pedigree of the Kibblewhite family.[2]
The Visitations does not record Richard's parents, nor any children other than Thomas.
No dates are recorded, but we do know the rough birthdate of his great grandson, Nicholas, who was forty when his father died in 1595, and so born about 1555. Knowing this date, we can infer that Nicholas' father, Thomas, must have been born at least twenty years earlier, so before 1535. Likewise, his father, also Thomas, must have been born at least another twenty years earlier, so before 1515. And the Richard of this profile, who was the father of that Thomas, must have been born at least another twenty years before that, so before 1495.
Of course, these dates may be earlier, even much earlier, but we can confidently say that Richard was born before 1495, and married before 1515.
