Newport C. Stephens was born in Aug 1850 in Pennsylvania, son of Thomas W. Stephens (1808–1892) and Ann Eliza Newport (1822–1863).

Newport died on 1 Jan 1877 in Pennsylvania, United States, aged 26. He was buried in Stephens Cemetery, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.[1]
Newport married Clara Ann Churchill (born on 22 Mar 1857 in Hillsdale, Indiana, Pennsylvania, United States; daughter of Philander Churchill and Elizabeth Harriet (Rank) Churchill).
