Biography

Allen Stephens was born about 1801 in South Carolina.^[1][2][3]

On 30 Dec 1822 he applied for a license to marry Sally Reade, on the same day a James Reade, who may be a brother of Sally also applied for a license to marry Nancy Adamson. Both marriage records were returned on 30 Dec 1822 by Edmund Wilcox. Allen married Sarah "Sally" Reade on 02 Jan 1822 in Caldwell County, Kentucky^[4][1][2] and the couple had the following known children:

1. Robert M. C. Stephens was born about 1831 in Kentucky.^[1]
2. William L. Stephens was born about 1833 in Kentucky.^[1]
3. Isaac L. Stephens was born about 1836 in Arkansas.^[1]
4. Allen R. Stephens was born about 1840 in Arkansas.^[1][2]

Allen and Sally had 4 girls older than Robert, that have not yet been identified.^[5]

In 1830 he is living in Caldwell County, Kentucky with the following household members:

Allen remained in Izard County in 1850^[1] and 1860^[2], but by 1870 Sarah has apparently died and a widowed Allen is living with his son Robert M. Stephens in Texas County, Missouri.^[3]
