Biography

• Thomas worked at the family trade of being a Butcher. He continued that trade in Plymouth, Devon and in New Zealand as well.
• He was married twice. His first wife Ellen Bickham died in 1900 in Plymouth. Thomas remarried again but not until after the 1901 census and before the family immigrated to New Zealand. His second wife's name was Maria Harley.
• Thomas's siblings were Mary, Sophia and Joseph according to the 1871 census.
• Thomas's children by his first marriage to Ellen, were Beatrice, Thomas, Rose and Fernleigh. There may have been an older son who did not travel to NZ with the family, but so far cannot find any confirmtion of this child.

• Thomas's children by his second marriage to Maria include Frederick, George, Leslie, Lillian and Edith.
