Thomas was baptised on 3rd June 1798. His parents were John and Elizabeth. The family lived in the parish of Tidenham. [1]
There are a number of marriages of a Thomas Stephens between when he was 18 in 1816 and 1819 when he married Mary Morse. We can rule out a marriage to Elizabeth James as she and her Thomas were still having children in 1825.
He could have married Elizabeth Barton (Boston/Boraton) in Gloucester on 3rd August 1818. [2]
In 1819 Thomas married Mary Morse. He was a widower, she was a spinster. Neither could sign their name. [3]
Thomas and Mary had 4 children, John, Thomas Wade, Eliza Ann and Mary. Mary and baby Mary died in 1828 leaving Thomas with a young family.
In 1831 Thomas married Hannah Phillpots at Newland. [4] Thomas and Hannah had 4 children.
In 1841 the family were living in Upper Kensington, Liverpool. Thomas was a merchant and they had 3 children John, James and Frederick. The children's birth dates indicate they moved to Liverpool between 1833 and 1837. The family had 2 female servants aged 16 and 12. [5]
In 1851 Thomas and Hannah were living in Kensington, Liverpool with 4 children and 2 servants. A niece, Sarah A Stevenson lived there as well. Thomas was a broker. His son James was a Tea Broker. [6]
Thomas died in 1854 aged 56. He was buried on Boxing Day. He'd lived in Kensington, Liverpool. [7]
