Biography

Alice A. was born October 6, 1860.[1]

Susannah (Amanda A) Stephenson was enumerated at Redbone District 779 GM, Franklin Post Office, Heard County, Georgia, for the June 21, United States Census, 1870. She was noted as born 1862-1863 in Georgia as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are male Wm F Stephenson, female Mary J Stephenson, female Ida J Stephenson and male Edwin R Stephenson.[2]

Alace N Stephenson was enumerated as daughter at Antioch, Troup County, Georgia for the June 11, United States Census, 1880. She was noted as a seamstress, born 1861 in Georgia and single as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are self W J Stephenson, wife Mary I Stephenson, daughter Ida I Stephenson, son Edwin B Stephenson, son Alonze C Stephenson and daughter Roena Stephenson.[3]

Alice Stephenson wed F M Campbell September 6, 1885 in Cleburne County, Alabama.[4]

Of this time, there are a few newspaper stories in Anniston and Heflin about Alice Stephenson Campbell turning an unfinished house of a banker into a small hotel. Therein is a description of the plan. The place today is a B and B in Anniston. ...about 1895. [5]

Alice A Danforth was enumerated as wife of the head of household in ED 139 Precinct 7 Bell Mills, Cleburne County, Alabama for the June 5, United States Census, 1900. She was noted as born October 1860 in Georgia and had been married for twenty (?) years. She was the mother of six children who were all still living. Also included in the household are head Bud Danforth, son (stepson) Fred C Danforth (Campbell), son (stepson) Ross Danforth (Campbell), daughter (stepdaughter) Neva Danforth (Campbell), son (stepson) Frank Danforth (Campbell), son Charlie D Danforth and daughter Myrtle Danforth as seen in an image of the original census.[7]

Alace A Danforth was enumerated as head of the household at 236? Third Avenue, Birmingham Ward 5, Jefferson County, Alabama for the April 21, United States Census, 1910. She was noted as born 1861 in Georgia and widowed. She was the mother of six children who were all still living. She lists her occupation as house (boarding) and she was a renter as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are son Charlie Danforth, daughter Myrtle Danforth, son Ross Campbell, son Frank Campbell, lodger John F Marshall, lodger John C Williams, lodger Gormalley, lodger Will J Harpole, lodger Gus Ellard, lodger Jessie Edwards, lodger Herndon Courtney, lodger John C Sims, lodger Leon Augustine, servant John Brown, cook Hester Brown and chambermaid Rosa Pitts.[8]

Alice A. Danforth was listed as the mother of Myrtle Lee Danforth, who wed Frank J. Bowers June 11, 1914 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.[9]

Alice A Danforth was enumerated as head of the household at 708 West Twentieth Street, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama for the January 15, United States Census, 1920. She was noted as born 1861 in Georgia and widowed. She was the proprietor of a rooming house as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are daughter Myrtle Lee Danforth, son Newt Ross Campbell, daughter-in-law Florence Campbell, granddaughter Dorothy Alice Campbell, lodger Lloyd H Mcdonald, lodger Peter Walter Clement, servant Mary Fleming, lodger Eddie G Dickson, lodger William C Willbanks, lodger Moure J Dickson, lodger Joe F Taylor, lodger Mattie Taylor, lodger Katie Daniel, lodger Mattie Daniel, lodger Charles Daniel, lodger (son) Charles E Danforth, lodger (daughter-in-law) Ester Rebecah Danforth, lodger (granddaughter) Sara Francis Danforth, servant Louise Blackmore and renter Frank Powell.[10]

In the 1922 Polk City Directory, she was listed as living at 732 West 20th Street, Birmingham, Alabama telephone Main-4694 and listed as Danforth Alice A Mrs.[11]

Alice A. Danforth died May 22, 1923 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. She was widowed by M. C. Danforth. Her father was listed as Wm. Frank Stephenson and mother Mary Jane Gillespie.[1]

"News was received in Heflin on Tuesday of the death Mrs. Dansforth of Birmingham. The deceased was a sister of Mrs. W.M. Harris of Heflin. The remains were brought here Tuesday night and carried to the home of her sister where funeral services were held on Wednesday. She was buried in the Heflin Cemetery. We extend sympathy to the bereaved ones. On May 22, 1923, there passed from earth the beautiful spirit of Mrs. Alice A. Dansforth, at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 17 days. Sister Danforth was born and reared in Heflin and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Stephenson who were well and favorably known here. She was the sister also of Mrs. W. M. Harris of this city. Sister Dansforth was twice married; first to Rev. Marion Campbell and second to a Mr. Dansforth of Birmingham. She was the mother of six children, four by her first marriage and two by her first[second] marriage. She had been a member of the church for more than a half a century, having joined the church when only ten years of age. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Methodist church in Birmingham. Dr. George."[12]

Alice Stephenson was listed as the mother of Myrtle Lee Danforth who wed Clarence A Loomis June 4, 1925 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The father was listed as A T Danforth. The groom's father was listed as Wm Loomis and his mother Alma Campbell as seen in the image of the marriage license.[13]

Alice Stephenson was listed as the mother of Fred Elbert Campbell who died December 3, 1938 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. The father was listed as F M Campbell and the wife Ruth.[14]

Alice Stephenson was listed as the mother of Henry Frank Campbell who wed Katie Lulleen Moore September 15, 1944 in Jefferson County, Alabama. The father was listed as Francis M Campbell. The father of the bride was listed as Thomas W Spain and the mother Willie Lee Walling as seen in the image of the marriage book.[15]

Alice Steverson was listed as the mother of Newton Ross Campbell who died January 7, 1950 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. The father was listed as Francis Marion Campbell.[16]

Alice A Stephenson Danforth is buried at Heflin Cemetery in Heflin, Cleburne County, Alabama.[17]
