Biography

William was born in 1813. He was son of John Stephenson and Sina Bogan. ^[1]

He was married twice and had 15 children. ^[2]

He married (1) Mary Catherine Whitson in 1835. ^[3]

His first wife Catherine died in 1841.

Looks like their only daughter was Mary, born in 1841. It is confusing though because she gives her birth year as 1848 and 1850 on 1900 and 1920 census records. It may be that the wrong Mary C Stephenson has been linked on those census records. Find a grave and other document says she never married and those 2 census records have her as spouse of Millard Fillmore Whitson. ^[4]

He married (2) Lucinda Smith in 1844. ^{[5] [6]}

Per the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census' they had the following children:

1. Almira - born 1846
2. John - born 1847
3. Sina - born 17 Jul 1848 and died 1 Feb 1930. Mother is Lizzie (nickname for Lucinda?) ^[7]
4. Terry - born 1850
5. Samuel - born 1851
6. James - born about 1853
7. Albey/Albryce E - born about 1855
8. George - born 1856
9. William - born about 1840
10. Rachel Francis - born 1858
11. Conethus - born 1859
12. Margaret Lucinda - born 1861
13. Evaline - born 11 Oct 1863 and died 7 Feb 1924. Mother is Lucinda. ^[8]

In 1860 William and Lucinda were living in Missouri with nine children: Almira, John, Terry, Samuel, James, Albryce, George, Rachael and Conethus. ^[9]

In 1870 they were living in Missouri with 10 children. ^[10]

In 1880 he was 67 and living with wife Lucinda and 4 teen-aged and adult children (George, William, Margaret, and Evaline) in Missouri. ^[11]

He passed away in 1882. ^[12]

Buried in Groom Cemetery, Siloam Springs, Missouri. ^[13]
