Biography

Robert was born about 1756. He passed away about 1813.

Robert's will is one of the most important documents verifying brothers and sisters of this Stephenson/Stevenson family. In his will written 12 Nov 1813, Robert, lists his siblings by name.[1]

WILL OF ROBERT STEPHENSON

State South Carolina Pendleton District

In the name of God Amen, i Robert Stephenson Being Sick in body, and of good memory, having faith in God my Redeemer and good will to all man kind, Do in the first place resign my soul and body unto my Creator: leaving my self entirely to his will, hoping in his mercy to rest in peace when it pleaseth his divine will to remove me to his mansion above. And to settle my Earthly substance here in a mannor pleasing to this my last will and testa­ment, I do in the first place, Leave and bequeath unto my kindre­d as follows: I leave and bequeath unto my sister and poor widow Martha Russel the sum of Sixty Dollars in cash which is to be collected out of Sundry notes in my pof'sefsion, And next, I do bequeath unto my Brother George Stevenson the sum of Twenty four dollars out of notes in my pofsesion, and a book acount of eight dollars on Thomas Skelton Junior; said book account is only men­tioned to make up the balance of his quota with the ballance of the notes which was to serve the Widow Russel provided that said George Stevenson shall make no demand for or against me in any wise: this being a compensation suited in good will against all demands from him against me; Next unto my Brother Alexander Stevenson & Sister Elizabeth Morrow; I do leave and bequeath the amount twenty eight dollars & a half to be collected out of my Schooling in the manner described by my articles; allowing my lawful debts to be paid out of the above before any division be made. Given under my hand and seal this 12 day of November 1813.
