Biography

Birth

Lydia Stetson was born in July 1683 [1][2] at Scituate, Massachusetts. [3] 3rd Child, and 2nd daughter of Samuel Stetson and Lydia Pickles.[3].

Illegitimate Child

At a Plymouth County Court of General Sessions in June 1705, Lydia Stetson was ordered to pay £4 or be publicly whipped 10 stripes, to pay fees, and to stand committed for having a bastard child by fornication, to which she confessed. Stetson swore John Records Jr. was the father "and that be begot her with child in the first week in July 1704."[4]
As discussed in the profile for Abiel Sprague, it is reasonably likely that Abiel was the bastard child referenced in the court case.
