Biography

Esther Stetson was born on July 23, 1784 in Randolph, Massachusetts (then part of the town of Braintree). Her parents were John Stetson and Rachael Paine. [1][2]

She married William Barry in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 5 or 6, 1802.[3] [4][5] Thirteen children were born to the marriage:[6]

The 1850 United States Census recorded Wm. Barry, age 74, and Esther Barry,age 65, in Boston, Massachusetts. Both were born in Massachusetts. Wm. Barry reported having no occupation, but he had $8,000 in real estate. Also in their household were two servants: Hannah Lane, age 28, born in Ireland, and Eliza Snow, 40, born in Massachusetts.[7] In 1855 the Massachusetts state census recorded William Barry, age 79, "gentleman," and Esther Barry, age 71, in Boston, sharing their household with Eliza Snow, 35; Thomas Newton, 18, a clerk; and Mary Regen, 28. All were born in Massachusetts except Mary Regen, who was born in Ireland.[8]

Esther (Stetson) Barry died at her home at 17 N. Russell Street in Boston, Massachusetts, on 24 March 1859, at age 74, and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.Cause of her death was reported as paralysis.[9][10][11][12][13]
