Biography
Agnes was born on 3 May 1717 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotand to James Steuart and Ann Dalrymple.
In her youth she and her sisters had had the benefit of instruction in mathematics from Professor Maclaurin, the friend of Sir Isaac Newton - a rare accomplishment at that time. [1] [2]
Agnes married Henry on 31 Jan 1739 at Lady Huntingdon's Chapel, Bath, Somerset, England. After her marriage, Agnes Stewart was styled as Countess of Buchan on 14 October 1745.
She died in Edinburgh on 17 Dec 1778 and is buried at Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland with her husband Henry and son David, Lord Cardross.
