Joseph was born on 28 January 1853, in West Elizabeth, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, to Thomas Stevens and Caroline Rapp. [1]
He was a coal miner.[2]
On 16 November 1923, he died, in the South Side Hospital, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, of hypostaticial pneumonia, following injuries to right testicle, while lifting coal car in mine. It was probably accidental. On 19 November 1923, he was buried, in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.[3]
