Biography

Jennie, presumably named after the first Jennie who died in 1888, was also known as Jane. Jennie Stevens was born Dec 28th 1894, Strathaven, Holland township Grey County, Ontario. W.H Stevens listed as Baptist Minister. Jennie, along with Mabel moved out to Calgary sometime after 1911.She worked in the Imperial Bank where she met Clement Felix Thompson, an Englishman who was an accountant with the bank. Clement joined the army and was sent overseas in 1915. Jennie found employment with the Army Pay office and in 1916 followed Clement overseas to England. They were married on May 2nd 1916 at New Malden. In 1918 they returned to Calgary after her husband was wounded and gassed in battle.

Jennie died in Calgary July 25th 1965 and is buried in Queen’s Park Cemetery in a plot with her husband Clement. They had three children.

Jennie’s obituary in the Calgary Albertan on Tuesday July 27 1965 read as follows.

" Thompson – July 25, Mrs. Jane Thompson aged 70 years, beloved wife of Mr. Clement Thompson formerly of 300 Bow Valley Lodge. Born in Strath Avon, Ontario she came to Calgary in 1910. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the I.O.D.E. "
