Rachel Stevens was born on 5 Apr 1772 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut Colony. She was the daughter of Joseph Stevens and Sarah Lockwood.
Rachel married Nathaniel Bouton on 22 Mar 1801. In the fall of that year, Rachel accompanied Nathaniel to Virgil, New York, where they settled on a 100-acre farm adjoining her brother-in law's land.[1] At the time of their settlement, Virgil was still a part of Onondaga County, and would remain as such until after Rachel's passing.
Rachel and Nathaniel had four children, all born in Virgil: Nathan (b. 1802), James (b. 1803) and twins, William and Lewis (b. 1805).
Tragically, Rachel passed away while giving birth to her twins on 26 Feb 1805. She was buried at Virgil Rural Cemetery in Virgil.[2]
