Biography

Amy was born in 1914. She was the daughter of Thomas Stevens and Ivy Kerney. She passed away in 2008.

Wife of Jack Whitely Schofield Sister of Maud Phyllis Gray - Jackson; Myra Cash; Cecil Thomas Stevens; Olive Barbara Thomas; Rita Doreen Costello; and Dulcie Mary Callaghan

Amy in her teenage years was sent off to the blue mountains to be a maid in a hotel there, she hated the job and caught the train home but with out a ticket, she was caught by a porter and taken to the station masters office, the porter asked her nam and she said Stevens, he said Ivys daughter my cousin so he let her off.. Ivy said she during the war worked as a cleaner in Sydney near central station where the American soldiers stayed, 2 soldiers in the same room who paid Amy to keep it quite, in the end they cleaned their own room and i still got the money..

After the war Amy and her brother Cecil went in to black market bookies taking phone bets on races over the phone for many years, Cecil moved to Toukley and Amy was lonely with Jack never home, she said Jack and her went for a drive to Toukley where he saw a unit close to the water and bought it for Amy, Jack stayed in the flat in Sydney and Amy moved to Toukley close to her Brother, Jack later went into a nursing home in Sydney and Amy visited him but had to stop because he did not know who she was and it upset her not knowing her or their children

Amy when in her teens was my Mothers best friend and they kept in contact over years till mum passed, finding Amy's address In abt 2006 i started every fortnight calling in to see her on my way to Newcastle, Amy started to slowly loose weight and could now not walk to the shops like in 2006, her children did come up from sydney and shop for her but there was still little in the cupboards, I offered to drive her there but she declined Sue will be up soon. In December 2008 Amy was re admitted to Gosford Hospital and i received the message in Sydney and called at the hospital, she looked at me and smiled, 2 minutes later the nurse came back in and said Amy has passed..Her son John phoned me and thanked me for being there as they lived in Syney..
