Bessie S. Mathis, 87, born November 17, 1921 in Scott County, MS, died July 7, 2009 at her residence in Waynesboro. She was retired from Ingalls Shipyard, having worked as a Clerk. She was a member of of First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro. Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her Husband, Ray W. Mathis; Father, Cecil R. Stevens and Mother, Lee Stevens; Son, Charles Ray Mathis. She is survived by her Daughter, Margaret (George Elton) Alsworth of Waynesboro; Brother, B. W. Stevens, Liberty; 2 Grandchildren, Jennifer D. Alsworth (Cpt. Casey L.) Taylor of Okinawa, Japan and Joseph R. "Randy" Alsworth of Birmingham, AL; Several Nieces and Nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Mathis will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 08, 2009 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 09, 2009 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro with Rev. Paul McDonald officiating. Interment will be in Waynesboro Cemetery.
