Biography

Birth

No record has been found of the birth of Moses Stevens. Given the date of his marriage, 1765 is a reasonable estimate for his birth. He was the son of Moses Stevens and Mary (Collins) Stevens, probably born at New Gloucester, Maine (then in Massachusetts), where his parents lived until 1775, when they moved to the new sttlement of Sylvester in Cumberland County, later the town of Turner, Maine.[1]

Marriage

Moses Stevens and Anna "Nancy" Smith, both of Turner, Maine (then in Massachusetts), married there on 12 Jul 1788.[2][1]

Residences

At some point after their marriage, Moses and Nancy Stevens moved to Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), where they recorded five children between August 1789 and April 1804.[3] Moses is not listed among the heads of household at Livermore in 1790.[4] He does not appear there in the 1790 census, but is shown there in 1800 in a household with one male and one female aged 26-44, two males 10-15, and one male and one female under 10.[5] He is not found in the 1810 census, so he had apparently either died or moved elsewhere by then.

Death

No record has been found of the death of Moses Stevens. He died before November 1815, when according to her gravestone at the Upper Street Cemetery in Turner, Maine, his wife died as his widow.[6]
