Leslie enlisted for service in WW1 on 30 Dec 1915 and gave his age as 24 years and 8 days, and occupation as Local government clerk. He was assigned to the 20th Battalion with Reg. No. 6823, and was mainly involved in clerical duties such as pay-clerk, etc.. He returned to Australia on 12 Jan 1920.
