Biography

John Stevens was born 30 May 1710 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, son of Thomas Stevens and Mary Davis (who were married there 12 May 1709).[1][2]

His father, Thomas, might have been the son of Thomas and Martha, born Amesbury, 18 Apr 1688.[3]

He was a son of Deacon Thomas & Mary (Davis) Stevens.

AND a Thomas Stevens married a Mary Davis (but no doubt a different one from Davis-1445) in Amesbury, MA 12 May 1709. So I bet what happened is that at some point a Mary Davis from Mass. was mistakenly merged with a Mary Davis from Virginia.

I just looked at Amesbury Vital Records (transcription) and see that the John Stevens born 30 May 1710 in Amesbury was son of Thomas Stevens and a wife, Mary.

Michelle, it looks like this man ended up attached to wrong mother. He's a Massachusetts man; looks like "mom" was always in Virginia. Probably happened as a result of a merge gone awry? In any case, it looks like he should be detached.
