Biography

Mary Stevens was born 28 Oct 1710 in Andover, Massachusetts.[1]

The 1763 will (probate 1768) of Abiel Stevens includes a bequest to daughter Mary Lee widow of Benjamin Lee,[2]

Benjamin Lee and Mary Stevens resided in Manchester. Benjamin served as deacon of the church and was selectman in 1748 until 1754 and town clerk from 1748 to 1753.[3]

Benjamin Lee did not leave a will and his estate entered probate 5 December 1757 with widow Mary as administratrix. Real estate was £244.18.8, personal estate was £86.13.4, and £16.4 was owed to the estate. Accounting on 3 June 1758, Mary Lee reported debts and expenses of the estate were £234.5.1 which included £20 to the widow for necessities and £2 for the rearing of children. The dower was set off to the widow on 16 June 1758.[4]

In November 1758 in her capacity as estate administrator to settle debts, widow Mary Lee, in consideration of £70, sold to Thomas Lee, Sr. two-thirds of the dwelling house and two-thirds of the barn with the lands associated. On 27 Oct 1758, in consideration of £11, sold one acre of land to John Foster, Jr.[5]
