Russell L. Stevens, born about 1846 to John H. and Susan Stevens in New Hampshire. Parents John(1815-?) and Susan(1819-?) were also born in New Hampshire, per censuses of Brighton, Vermont of 1850 and 1860. The family moved from New Hampshire to Vermont after all the children were born. Siblings of Russell are 1841 Orlando, 1843 Calvin, 1847 Roxanna, 1849 Samantha. Vermont vital records shows birth year and death date for Russell L. Stevens, who died in the battle of July, 1864, at the age of 18, defending Washington, D.C. from Confederate forces led by General Jubal Early. Russell is buried at BATTLEGROUND NATIONAL CEMETERY Findagrave has a link for all who were buried there, including RUSSELL L. STEVENS One of his comrades was EDWARD CAMPBELL, who was also from Vermont. Edward survived the battle, and was buried at Battleground National Park 72 years later, in March of 1936.
