Pilot Officer Linton William Stevenson NZ404961 Royal New Zealand Air Force, Fighter Command 607 Squadron, RAF 11 Group, Maidstone, Kent
No. 607 Squadron RAF was a fighter unit throughout the Second World War in Europe. They flew Hawker Hurricane airplanes from RAF Maidstone in Kent.
On the 11th of November 1941, Pilot Officer Linton William Stevenson flying Hurricane IIB BE221, took off at 2.45pm with seven others to attack special objective in France, south of Dieppe; an ammunition dump and train wagons. The formation flew at low level to France with several other squadrons and found visibility so poor that some machines nearly hit cliffs, violent evasive action being required to clear them. One squadron turned back after becoming separated in 10/10ths cloud at low level. Linton William Stevenson went missing near St-Valery, shot down by an anti aircraft battery. [2]
