Note

Note: Served in the war of 1812, for which he was given a large grant of land in the Miami Valley by the federal government. He and his sons William and Silas worked in the grist mill business in Miami county, Ohio.
Estate Bond filed 21 Sep 1822 in Miami county, Ohio. (FH Film 0,556,505, section 1, page 87) with bondsmen/executors: Richard Murray [or Murrow], Levi Stout and Jacob Statler. $500 bond put up to settle estate.
Minors Bond filed 15 Nov 1824. (FH Film 0,556,505, section 1, page 107) Guardians Joseph DeFries and William Manning over minors: William, John, Nancy and Charles. Other witnesses: James Tamplin and William Jackson.
Probate record filed 27 Oct 1846 and reviewed 4 May 1847 -- granting $733.98 due to guardian; there must have been some legal dispute about how William Stewart's estate was handled.
Karen Pinkerton-Tatro believes William's first wife may have been Sara Anne Evans. There is a marriage for a William Stewart and Sara Anne Evans for August 22, 1800 in Belmont, Ohio.
William Stewart and Jemima Manning's family worked in the grist mill business, both in Ohio and in Indiana (where William Stewart's son William moved to with Silas Manning).
BURIAL INFORMATION: William, Jemima, John and Mary Ann Stewart were all previously buried in the Stewart Cemetery, location unknown. Four small cemeteries were incorporated into Forest Hill, one was the Stewart Cemetery, and one was the Russell Cemetery. Son, Charles Stewart, was originally buried in the John Fuller Lot, but was later moved and re-interred near the rest of the Stewart family. The lot and grave number have not been changed on his records, and are in error.
"Memoirs of the Miami Valley, Volume 1" available for free on Google ebooks and .pdf file copy saved to my files. John Hilliard first settled there in December 1802. Followed by James McKinney in 1805; John McKinney in 1806; and Gardener Bobo in 1807; others who followed were William Stuart, Daniel Symmes, Mathew Scudder, William Frost, James Cregan, George M Caven, Henry Freeman, William Wiley and G. P. Torrance. See page 513 in the above book.
