Biography

George was born in 1825. He is the son of William Stewart and Elizabeth Shirley. [1] In 1831 George's father was convicted for stealing 2 cows sentenced to death and received a Royal Mercy having his sentence commuted to 7 years. In February 1833 his father was transported to NSW penal colony aboard the vessel Asia to serve the remaining 5 years of his sentence. [2] In 1832 his mother married Thomas Brower and in 1851 was residing with his step father, mother and siblings. [3]
